Landmark Survey Uncovers Reasons Why Women Are Not Able to Properly Address Their Skin Care Issues

The condition of a woman's skin has a serious impact on her self-esteem, according to results from a new landmark skin care survey announced today sponsored by Obagi Medical Products, Inc. (Nasdaq: OMPI - News), a leader in physician-dispensed topical aesthetic and therapeutic skin health systems. The survey, entitled "Women and Skincare: A Quest For Real Results," was developed to identify women's attitudes, behaviors and desires when it comes to skin health. Further, even though the majority of respondents feel a skin care professional is the best source for skin care information, they continue to seek solutions without the advice of a medical skincare professional.

The majority of women (84%) have at least one issue with their skin. This peaks among women in their 40s, who report having four skin care issues.

Dania residents: Toxic construction dust made us sick

Lueron Dixon, a retired nurse, suffers repeated skin rashes and must take breathing treatments every night to clear her lungs.

The longtime resident blames her health problems on toxic dust she says blew into her home during construction of a nearby warehouse a few years ago.

"I had nosebleed," she said. "Right now I have a lot of mucus. I cough so much at night, I've almost choked on my own mucus." Worse, she said, her brother, Eddie Fairchild, who shared her home, "right now has colon cancer, he has liver cancer; he has lung cancer. His concern is to live."

Dixon is one of almost 100 neighbors in a predominantly black community suing Lauris Boulanger Inc., which developed the Dania Distribution Centre at Dania Beach Boulevard and Southwest 12th Avenue.

Rising India cannot shake its bias for boys / Gender imbalance widens in 2nd most populous country

Standing in front of his small brick home, in a courtyard where the dirt has been packed down by generations of barefoot children, the middle-age mustard farmer doesn't bother to hide his exhaustion.

"Only someone who has been through something like this can understand the size of my catastrophe," said Sukhpal Singh Tomar. For years, he has struggled to find some reason for his suffering, but has come up with little. He shrugged: "It must be my karma."

The catastrophe? His daughters - all eight - so many he sometimes stumbles over their names. But his wife, Shanti, never forgets, and the words spill from her like a breathless prayer: "Anu, Jyoti, Poonam, Roshni, Sheetal, Bindu, Chandni, Shezal."

They have been born in a country leaping headfirst into the globalized world but still holding tight to a preference for boys, enlarging an ever-widening gender imbalance in the second most populous nation on Earth.

Covered girls | A peek beneath the uniformly modest look of Texas sect women

For a society accustomed to the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, the images of the women from the polygamist compound in Texas are almost shocking in their understatement: ankle-length dresses, makeup-less faces, hauntingly uniform hair.

And while no one would accuse the women of making a fashion statement, the pioneer-style outfits are a rare example of how, in an age of overexposure, modesty, too, can give pause.

The puff-sleeved dresses worn by the women in the sect are a combination of original 19th-century wear and 1950s clothing that was adopted when the church took a conservative turn, according to Janet Bennion, an anthropologist who studies polygamist women.

The dresses are meant to show modesty and conformity: They go down to the ankles and wrists, and are often worn over garments or pants, making sure every possibly provocative inch of skin is covered.
